What is a General Surgeon?
A general surgeon is a specialist trained to provide surgical care of the whole patient. General surgeons evaluate and administer comprehensive treatment of patients with injuries and illnesses.
General surgeons are dedicated to your total care and to coordinating your treatment, including consulting with other specialists when needed.
All general surgeons must complete a residency or specialty training in the field of surgery. This training period is an accredited surgery residency program lasting at least five years.
General surgeons provide examinations, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment planning. They can relate the diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of surgical problems.
